Celebrating Local Life at the Haselmere Food Festival 2008

The Haslemere Food Festival was the perfect platform to celebrate our Aga Local Life campaign during the month of September. The Aga Shop was at the centre of many festival attractions, and over a 2 week period held numerous events which advocated the best in local and British foods.

The festival action started at the Aga shop, with the first week being dedicated to the festival's Supreme Sausage Competition. Our local major attended our grand opening, where Aga demonstrator Deborah Miller cooked up numberous treats for our huge number of attendees. The week saw a number of sausage tastings taking place in-store, where customers were encouraged to sample and vote for their favourite one. The eventual winners were awarded their prize and title at a fantastic ceremony on the 13th of September. The occassion saw our local celebrity chef, Paul Starly, cooking up a variety of dishes using ingredients from Farm Fresh Express and produce from our various competition entries. Winner of the traditional sausage category was Thwaites Butchers and speciality category went to Kaighan and Daughter with their spring onion, ginger and pork sausage.

We held a number of exciting, innovative cookery days at the shop throughout the festival. Some of the favourites included our Apple open day (the fruit was transformed into a number of tasty dishes); a book signing and local ingredients demo with Sarah Whittaker and our 'Thank fish it's Friday' class featuring produce from The Good Fish Shop. Another highlight to the week was a fantastic talk on wine and cider by local maker, James Lane, of Gospel Green. Samples of his locally made organic wines and champagne cider proved to be a great hit.
